
I was always active when growing up, and tried many sports like soccer, footy, badminton and basketball etc. But despite being so active, I was still kinda overweight and chubby. When I was around 12 years old I decided to take basketball more seriously, and I have trained very hard to become better everyday. Fortunately enough, I was selected to play for JVBL (rep basketball), I was very excited and happy that I could improve my basketball skills and compete at a higher level. However, during a training session of the early season, I accidentally tore my meniscus which caused me to be out for most of the season. During the period I was injured, I was eating a lot with little amount of physical activity. Over time my overweight issue got out of hand, I started to have a huge stomach and realize I’m starting to have lots of stretch marks around the abdominal, arms and chest area. One day, I looked at myself in the mirror and felt disgusted. I don’t want to be described as a fat person or a fat boy anymore, that’s why I decided to make a change, and decided to make my life better.
I decided to make a change when I was 125kgs, over the half year period I have lost about 40kgs. Throughout the period, I have made a lot of mistakes . Such as skipping meals, not eating enough and becoming malnutritioned, only did cardio and not resistance training. Therefore even though I lost a tremendous amount of weight but I did not look good, I was just skinny fat with little muscle mass. That’s when I decided I should join a gym and do some weight training. When I first started all I did was just bicep curls and nothing else, I literally did not know a thing I was doing. Then my friend recommended me to do powerlifting and taught me the importance of compound movements, over the period of time I have gained quite an amount of muscle mass. Finally I started to look better and increase my self-esteem.
I have studied exercise and sport science(sports nutrition major) for my bachelor degree, and it’s probably the best decision for my career. Within that course I have learnt knowledge around the body, sports, biomechanics, importance about nutrition and eating for training.
Fast forward till now, I have learnt so much about training,nutrition and the fitness lifestyle . You can’t simply only focus on one thing, it’s a mix of everything. Since I started to become a personal trainer I have helped many people to achieve their goals and become their dream body shape through tailored training programs, meal plans and guidance.
